Welcome to Miss Sweetpea's tutorial. I'm glad you decided to make her. I think she is so cute.

I have zipped up the folder with all of the selections for Miss Sweetpea's parts. You can unzip this folder to your selections folder of PSP. Or you can try your hand at vector's. The selections can be moved if needed after they have been flood filled.

I always do everything on separate layers in case I want to change, move, or delete something. This tutorial could be done without each piece being on separate layers if you so desire. This tutorial was made with PSP7.

ZIP

1. Open a new transparent image 400 X 450. Add a new layer. Name this layer "head". Set your foreground to white and your background to black.

2. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "head.sel".

3. If you want Miss Sweetpea's appearance to be a little softer and the lines not so sharp you can go to selections/modify/feather - 1 for each selection of Miss Sweetpea's body before you flood fill it.

4. Flood fill Miss Sweetpea's head with black.

5. Select none. Add a new layer called "head stripe".

6. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "head stripe.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with white.

7. Select none. Add a new layer called "lft ear".

8. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "lft ear.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with black.

9. Select none. Add a new layer called "lft inner ear".

10. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "lft inner ear.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with white.

11. Select none. Add a new layer called "rgt ear".

12. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "rgt ear.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with black.

13. Select none. Add a new layer called "rgt inner ear".

14. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "rgt inner ear.sel. Soften if you like and flood fill with white.

15. Select none. Add a new layer called "nose area".

16. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on the "nose area.sel". Soften if you like and flood fill with white. Add a drop shadow with these settings:

You should have something that looks like this now.

17. Select none. Add new layer called "nose".

18. Go to selections/load from disk and double click on "nose.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with - #D7554B. Add a drop shadow with these settings:

19. Add new layer called "nose highlight". Select your paintbrush with these settings:

20. Make about 3 clicks of the paintbrush in a row.

21. Go to effects/blur/blur more and hit ok.

22. Select none. Add new layer called "lft eye".

23. Go to selections/load from disk and load the "lft eye.sel". Soften if you like. Flood fill with white.

24. Select none. Add a new layer called "lft eye blue". Go to selections/load from disk/lft eye blue.sel.

25. Soften if you like. Flood fill with #434E77.

25. Select none. Add new layer for shadow.

26. Select the paintbrush with these settings and add a few black dots along the left side of her eye.

26. Go to effects/blur/gaussian with these settings:

25. Add a new layer for your highlight. With the paintbrush add a couple of white dots along the right side of her eye. Go to effects/blur/gaussian with the same settings.

26. You can play around with these shadows and highlights until you get something you like.

27. Select none. Add a new layer for her sparkle. Select your tubes and add a little sparkle to her eye.

28. Add a new layer for her right eye. Go to selections/load from disk/rgt eye.sel. Soften if you like. Flood fill with white.

29. Select none. Add new layer for the blue in her right eye.

30. Go to selections/load from disk/rgt eye blue.sel. Soften if you like. Flood fill with #434e77.

31. Add a new layer for the shadow and do the same as her left eye.

32. Add a new layer for the highlight in her right eye and do the same as before.

33. Add a new layer and give her eye some sparkle.

34. You should have something like this:

35. Add a new layer called body. Go to selections/load from disk/body.sel. Soften if you want. Flood fill with black.

36. Select none. Add new layer for her stripe.

37. So to selections/load from disk/body stripe.sel. Soften if you like. Flood fill with white.

38. Select none. Merge visible layers.

39. Using your smudge tool go around her white stripes and nose area and give her some fur. Remember that if you start the tool in the black it will pull black into the white and vice versa.

40. Next by adding layers and using the paint tool and the gaussian blur with a setting of 3.5 go around in the black area of her ears and where her arms and legs and feet are and add white highlights. This will give her some dimension and separate those areas from her body.

41. Go to her nose area and paint her in some freckles or whiskers and give her a mouth.
